Northwestern School Corporation is pleased to announce starting immediately; all students in grades K-12 will receive free breakfast and lunch.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has extended several flexibilities that allow schools to serve free meals to all children through December 31, 2020 or until funds are depleted. The USDA implemented a free summer meal program to help service children during the pandemic. The summer meal program has been extended to continue serving free meals to all children.
Northwestern is committed to all elements that relate to the educational experience. To ensure all students attending Northwestern receive safe, healthy, and nutritious food, Northwestern has implemented the free breakfast and lunch program to all students. In addition, during the summer of 2020, Northwestern partnered with Chartwells, which is a leader in food service management. Chartwells brings expertise in crafting nutritious, made-from-scratch meals.
Superintendent Kristen Bilkey said, “We are excited to give our students at Northwestern great menu options that are not only healthy, but something the kids want to eat. The menu offered is very diverse that allows for student choice. I am excited that our kids will all get to enjoy the new menu options for free.”
