An investigation is ongoing after Lebanon Police Department officers were dispatched to a vehicle collision that involved a Boone County Sheriff’s Office Jail transport van.
On Friday, May 24 around 9:50 a.m., officers from the Lebanon Police Department were reportedly dispatched to the intersection of Noble Street and Indianapolis Avenue in Lebanon after receiving reports about a vehicle collision between two vehicle, and one of the vehicles was identified as a Boone County Sheriff’s Office Jail transport van that was transporting inmates, including one female inmate and two male inmates. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle was heading north to the Boone County Courthouse when the collision occurred.
According to authorities, seven total occupants were transported to area hospitals for treatment, and the injured parties included one Boone County Sheriff’s Office Jail transport driver alongside three Boone County Jail inmates and the three occupants of the second vehicle. According to the Lebanon Police, all seven of the parties are currently receiving medical treatment and are in stable condition as of Friday, May 24 at noon.
Police reported that the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was requested for the investigation and have responded to the scene to begin their investigation. The Lebanon Police Department stated that the identities of the parties involved in the crash will not be released pending further investigation.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those involved in the accident,” Sheriff Tony Harris wrote. “The quick response from all first responders on the scene is greatly appreciated. We are doing everything we can to support our office personnel, inmates and the public.”
The department will continue to provide information as it becomes available as the investigation progresses.
