The Hornets drew the first-round bye after an 18-5 regular season, matching their highest regular season win total since 2018-2019. The Hornets have not won more than 18 games in a season since 2001-2002, when they won the State Championship.
Carroll opened up Sectional 54 with a dominant win over Traders Point 58-33.
The Cougars are 10-13 after an 0-5 start to the year.
This will be the second time Carroll and Rossville have played this season, with Carroll winning a thriller on Dec. 19, 56-55.
Rossville is led by juniors Brayden Thiele-Hahn and Aiden Schamburg. Thiele-Hahn is averaging 22 points per game, and Schaumburg adds 13.4
Carroll relies on their senior guards Aiden Duff and Carson Hale, both scoring in double figures on average.
Rossville’s offense has been virtually unstoppable, ranking second in 1A at 68.3 points per game. The Hornets are also ranked No. 10 in 1A in the latest USA Today poll.
The matchup is set for Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at Clinton Central High School, the host of Sectional 54.
