Genda, VanNatter Receive Appointments for House Standing Committees

State Rep. Mark Genda (R-Frankfort) represents House District 41,
which includes portions of Boone, Clinton, Montgomery and Tippecanoe counties.

State Reps. Mark Genda (R-Frankfort) and Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo) recently received appointments to serve on key House standing committees at the Statehouse.

House standing committee appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker biennially after the November election and are in effect for the duration of members’ two-year terms. Genda, elected to his first term in November, will serve as vice chair of the House Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee, and as a member of the House Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development Committee, and the House Natural Resources Committee.

“Making Indiana a destination for new businesses and supporting Hoosier workers are top priorities,” Genda said. “Our state continues to have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation, and I’m looking forward to helping us continue that momentum.”

VanNatter was reappointed to serve as chair the House Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee. He will also serve as a member of the House Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development Committee, and the House Public Policy Committee. He said committees are responsible for vetting bills, including hearing public testimony and considering amendments.

“Indiana’s population and economic opportunities are on the rise, but we need to expand our skilled workforce pipeline to ensure we can meet the needs of today and into the future,” VanNatter said. “As chair, I look forward to supporting efforts to help hard-working Hoosiers, job creators and economic development.”

House lawmakers are scheduled to convene for session at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 9. Hoosiers can visit iga.in.gov to find legislation, view calendars, and watch committee meetings and session.
