Geneva R. Layton

Geneva R. Layton, 98, of Frankfort, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Clinton House Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Frankfort.  She was born February 23, 1923, near Fickle, Indiana, to Earl C. and Mabel E. (Higer) Lucas. She married John F. Layton on June 1, 1941, near Mulberry, Indiana, and he passed away June 6, 2015.

Geneva graduated from Dayton High School in 1941. She and John lived in the Frankfort area from 1945 to 1964 before moving to the Mattix Corner area in 1964; working alongside one another on the family farm. They also lived a short time in East Port, Maine. Geneva worked 16 years at Federal Mogul in Frankfort, retiring in 1980. She also worked at Woolworth Department Store and as a cook in the Frankfort High School. She had also worked as a waitress and salad maker at Frazier Dairy Restaurant in Frankfort. She attended Trinity Church of Mulberry and Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church.

Geneva is survived by one son, Kenneth (Sherry Patchett) Layton, of Frankfort; daughter-in-law, Gloria Layton of Lebanon; five grandchildren, Jason F. Layton, Gary Wayne Layton, Ryan Lee Layton, Monica (Jason) Sharkey, and Pamela Layton; and four great-grandchildren.

Geneva was preceded in death by her husband; son, James Layton; two sisters, Marilyn Fleischhauer and Phyllis Lucas; and one brother, Kenneth Lucas.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Genda Funeral Home ~ Mulberry Chapel, 204 N. Glick St., Mulberry, Indiana 46058, with Donna Enerson officiating. Burial will follow in Fair Haven Cemetery.
