George Gordon Ponton, 92, of Frankfort, the son of the late Armond G. and Dorothy A. (Deno) Ponton, died on March 20, 2025 as a result of cancer. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Gloria (Stewart), whom he married on December 15, 1972; three children, Mathew J. (Gina) Ponton of El Paso, Texas, Andrea A. Reddington of Frankfort, and Erin E. (Michael) L. Menozzi of Louden, Tennessee; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and his special little friends, Carly, Gracie and Buddy.
George was born January 8, 1933 in Goodland. He graduated from Frankfort High School in 1950. He received degrees from the University of Notre Dame and Indianapolis Law School. He subsequently practiced law for fifty-two years, including serving as Judge of the Frankfort City Court for thirty-two years. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1956.
His favorite dog was the Brittany Spaniel. He enjoyed playing the saxophone and clarinet, fishing and gardening. In his younger days he enjoyed golf and tennis. He attended St. Mary Catholic Church all of his life where he served on the parish council and other church boards and was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
George was always concerned over the welfare of his church, family and his clients.
George was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Freddy J. Ponton, a sister, Donna A. Van Meter. He is also survived by brothers, Thomas A. (Carolyn) Ponton of Bloomington and John S. Ponton of Frankfort.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 24, 2025 from 4-6pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Rosary will be held at 11am, Tuesday, March 25, at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Father Paul Cochran and Father David Rasner will concelebrate and burial will follow at Bunnell Cemetery. Following the mass, a meal will be held for all that will like to attend, at Muller Hall, catered by Slabby’s.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society or the Clinton County Humane Society.
