George W. Burkhalter

George W. Burkhalter, 89, of Lafayette, passed away at his home surrounded by family, Thursday, June 20, 2024.  He was born February 22, 1935, in Mulberry to Lloyd Dale and Ines Vallie (Lewis) Burkhalter.  He married Billie Dobson on June 11, 1961, and she survives.

George was a 1953 graduate of Rossville High School.  He played on the basketball team, and matched up during his time against Oscar Robertson, a memory he loved to share with his friends and family.  He served in the United States Army Reserves.  George worked his life as a farmer and loved being a farmer.  He served on the Buck Creek Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Tippecanoe County Conservation Club.  He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre.  George will be remembered as a giving and caring man.  He was always wanting to help those in the community and never said no to anyone that was in need of a helping hand.

Along with his wife of 63 years, George is survived by his children, Ron (Companion: Beth Martin); Steve (Companion: Jennifer) Burkhalter; Ken (Companion: Kathy Baker); a sister, Wilma Jean Hazlett; grandchildren, Ashley, Abby, Emily, Nolan, Lilly, Katie, Josh, Brock; great grandchildren, Xander, Lincoln, and Lucas, and special friends, Ron and Cheryl Stoyke, Kay Knop, Jeff Cook, Vickie Clark and Janet Woodruff.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Jack, Dale, Paul, Harold, Kenneth; and sisters, Ruth, Helen, Fern, Paulina, Mary Elizabeth, Evelyn.

Visitation will be held, Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 1-4pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Bodine Chapel in Rossville.  Funeral service will be held 10am, Monday, June 24 at the funeral home.  Pastor Dan Gottschalk will officiate.  Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in Lafayette.  Memorial contributions Buck Creek Community Church or the Honor Flight Network.  Messages of condolence may be left at www.dayandgenda.com.
