Gerald D. McIlrath, 58, of Rossville, passed away with his family at his side on the evening of Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at IU Health University Hospital. He was born on March 28, 1960 in Logansport to Doyal and Evelyn (Taylor) McIlrath. He was a 1978 graduate of Carroll High School. He married Patricia Berkshire on October 1, 1988 and recently celebrated their 30th anniversary.
Gerald worked for 30 years at Wabash National within the Duraplate Division. He was a member of Rossville Area Transit board and Rossville Lions Club. Gerald loved the simple things in life – friends and family. He enjoyed shuffle boarding with friends, enjoyed running the Rossville Lions Club ice cream trailer, was an avid Purdue Boilermaker and Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed going to breakfast with both friends and co-workers, but most of all loved being with his three girls.
Along with his wife, Gerald is survived by his daughters, Sarah McIlrath of Mishawaka and Laura McIlrath of Westfield; his parents of Burlington; and a sister, Carol (Cary) Cornett of Monticello.
Visitation will be held from 3-8pm, Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10am, Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the funeral home. Pastor Alan Downing will officiate. Burial will follow at Rossville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Lions Club as well as his family to offset funeral and medical expenses.

God needed someone to run his ice cream trailer in heaven, and he knew Gerald was on the one for the job! He will be greatly missed but his infectious humor and laughter will not be forgotten!
