Gilbert Arrested North of Flora Friday Night

MATHEW GILBERT

The man wanted on several felony arrest warrants in Clinton County was taken into custody Friday night.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office said that 37-year-old Mathew J. Gilbert was arrested at 9:05 p.m. Friday night. He was in a vehicle on State Road 39 just north of Rossville at the Clinton-Carroll County line.

Gilbert refused to stop for deputies. He fled into Carroll County with deputies and police in pursuit. He was stopped without incident north of Flora and taken into custody. He was returned to Clinton County Jail and is being held with no bond.

Gilbert had eluded authorities since Wednesday night when Sheriff’s deputies attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant on him at his residence Wednesday. He wasn’t home.

According to Chief Deputy Joe Mink of the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Gilbert’s warrants include escape, intimidation, resisting an arrest, failure to appear in court and two other felony charges.

Mink added the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all involved in this incident: Rossville Police, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Delphi Police, Flora Police, Indiana State Police and U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
