Clinton Prairie Baseball didn’t lose any seniors from last year’s team, now they look to build on a returning roster and find success in the new season.
“Last year, we started a lot of freshmen and sophomores,” head coach Matt Scott said. “And we graduated no seniors from last year, so we returned pretty much everybody from last year’s group. We went 11-15 last season, so those kids have kind of taken that to heart, they understand what it takes to be a good baseball team and the work that comes with it.”
The returners include Kye Jacobs, who was named to the Prep Baseball Indiana preseason All-State team. Jacobs led the team in batting average, on-base percentage, runs and stolen bases as a sophomore last season.
“We have two really good junior pitchers, Kye Jacobs, who’s also going to be our shortstop,” Scott said. “He’s getting some interest from some colleges, Kye is definitely one that we’re excited about for this upcoming season. We expect a big season out of him. He’s worked quite a bit in the offseason to try to put some muscle on, he’s worked on his pitching, fielding, and hitting, so we’re excited about him.”
Scott also mentioned Cayden Robinson as a key returning pitcher. Robinson led the team in innings pitched and strikeouts last year.
Another name to watch for is Sophomore Alex King. The centerfielder for the Gophers paced the team in hits, RBIs and extra-base hits a season ago..
After weather delayed their first two games, the Gophers will begin their season tonight against Sheridan.
