Grace Goodwin Miller

Grace Goodwin Miller, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and friend during her 85 years of life passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2021, surrounded by family.

Grace was born in Frankfort, Ind. on February 26, 1936, to her loving parents James William “Bill” Goodwin and Katherine (Lucas) Goodwin who both preceded her in death.  Grace married the love of her life John J. Miller on March 25, 1960 in Shawneetown, Ill. and he survives.  They raised three children.   She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1953 and Butler University in 1957, after which she taught school in West Lafayette and Frankfort. She then graduated from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1960, where she met her husband, John.  After graduation of mortuary school, she became a fourth-generation funeral director to carry on the Goodwin Funeral Home which was established by her great grandfather in 1856.  While at Butler, she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.  Her local memberships include First Evangelical Presbyterian Church where she was a former deacon, elder, and active in various women’s bible studies.  Other memberships include Tri Kappa, BPW, Zonta, DAR, Aftermath Club, Clinton OES, AAUW, and the Literary Club.  She also served on the board of directors of the Clinton County Boys & Girls Club.

Grace, is survived by her children William G. Miller (wife Sonya), Marta M. Stuard (husband Scott), Grace Ann Byrd (husband Tony) all of Frankfort.  Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Kyle, Alec, Christopher, Kara, Sydney, & Anna, 6 great grandchildren, and a seventh great grandchild due soon.   Her sister Katherine Klingler of St. Louis, Missouri also survives.

Grace was an avid golfer and enjoyed walks on the beach at Siesta Key, Florida.  She was a gracious lady and devoted Christian who lived a wonderful life and was loved by many, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

The visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, October 20, 2021, from 3-7 p.m. at the Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort, IN.   Family services will be held on Thursday with burial in Green Lawn Cemetery.  The family encourages memorial donations to the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 352 W.
