The community came together recently for the much-anticipated Grandma’s Cook-Off, hosted by Day & Genda Funeral Home, celebrating the cherished flavors, traditions, and stories that only Grandma’s cooking can bring.
The event encouraged participants to either be a grandmother themselves or to prepare a dish inspired by their own grandmother’s recipes. With delicious entries across multiple categories, judges had the tough job of tasting and selecting the winners.
This year’s winners are:
Appetizer: Gloria Hite – Bacon Cheese Ring
Soups: Pam Aguilar – Broccoli Potato Cheddar
Sides/Salads: Ronda Hite – Cornbread Casserole
Main Dish: Ronda Crews – Pot Pie
Dessert: Alyssa Sharp – Chocolate Coffee Caramel Cake
After the judging, community members enjoyed the best part of the event—sampling the wide array of homecooked dishes, swapping stories, and sharing memories of family meals around Grandma’s table.
The Cook-Off not only honors the culinary talents of local grandmothers but also brings people together in a warm, family-like atmosphere. With laughter, love, and plenty of food to go around, Grandma’s Cook-Off has quickly become a treasured community tradition.
