40 students in first through fifth grade at Harney Elementary flexed their critical thinking and strategy skills last week as they battled against their fellow classmates in games of chess.
The students were tasked with testing their stamina and emotions while playing five matches in a row, against the clock, while battling wits with their equally-paired competitors. The school released that while seven seeds saw winners, the event saw 40 students claim winner status by developing their learning and focus even further.
Top Champions:
- 1 seed: Ryker S.
- 2 seed: Jack W.
- 3 seed: Thien
- 4 seed: Jackson K.
- 5 seed: Ryan S.
- 6 seed: Theo T.
- 7 seed: Juniper S.
“Thank you to the parents for coming out and being amazing,” the school released. “Thank you to all the volunteers who made the event run so well. Thank you for student council for selling refreshments. Thank you for the janitors for putting up with us.”
