Harold W. Myers

Harold Wayne “Putt” Myers, 94, of Frankfort, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018 surrounded by family at the home he built in 1953 and where he had lived for the past 65 years.  He was born November 30, 1923 on the family farm in Colfax, Indiana to Eldo and Opal (Adkins) Myers.  He was a graduate of Colfax High School, Class of 1941.  He married Juanita Mullendore at the Jenkins farm in Clinton County on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1943.  They remained sweethearts until her passing on May 2, 2009.  They were blessed with 66 years of marriage and six children. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the European Theater in Patton’s Third Army as a machine gunner.  He marched and fought his way across Europe and received the Bronze Star for bravery.  After the war ended, he remained in Austria for a year as a Special Services Staff Sergeant. He was raised on the farm, milking cows and farming with his dad and two brothers.  Driving his father’s milk truck segued into a lifetime career of truck driving.  He drove ten years for Sprout & Davis and retired from trucking after 30 years with Roadway Express.  His safe driving record was stellar with over three-million miles driven with no accidents.  He has resided in Frankfort since 1946.  He was a fifty year member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the 70 & 2 Sunday school class.  He loved all things cars.  He had a great mind for facts and figures and could quote the specs of every Cadillac model and year.  He was a devoted husband and father and spent his free time taking his family to church, boating, skiing, picnicking and vacationing.  He enjoyed wood-working, gardening, and listening to Big Band music of the 40’s. 

He is survived by his six children:  Marjorie L. Pridemore, Richard W. Myers, Linda L. (Husband, Bill Mayer) Hunsberger, all of Lafayette, Ind., George S. Myers of Frankfort, Ind., Janet S. (Husband Steve) Wichmanowski of Zionsville, Ind., and Lisa A. (Husband Brian) Pearson of Carmel, Ind., 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and number eighteen on the way.  One brother-in-law, Roger (Wife Joann) Mullendore of Colfax, and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Craig of Kokomo, Ind. and Lynne Myers of Westlake Village, Cal., and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Raymond and Dale Myers.

He was a fine gentleman who always had a positive attitude.  He taught his children to love God.  “Worry not” and to always “Look for the sunshine”.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visiting will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort.  The funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. following the visitation at the funeral home. Pastor James Grady will officiate.
