Hernandez Leads Frankfort XC to Invite Championship

Frankfort High School boys’ cross country runner Hugo Hernandez finished first in a time of 17 minutes, 47 seconds Thursday as the Hot Dogs won their own invitational. FHS wound up with 27 points. Hamilton Heights was next with 44 and Indianapolis Arsenal Tech had 63. Neither Clinton Central nor Lafayette Central Catholic had team scores.

The FHS girls’ cross country team finished second to Hamilton Heights in their race. Carina Alanis led the Lady Dogs with a third-place finish in 22:57. Hamilton Heights finished with 29 points, one point better than FHS at 30. Clinton Central was third with 68. Arsenal Tech and Lafayette Central Catholic had no team scores.

FHS Boys’ Tennis Drops Opener

Following a rain delay, the Hot Dogs began their season with a 4-1 Sagamore Conference loss at home to Danville on Thursday.

SINGLES: Hunter Hensley (D) def. Noah Wilder 6-3, 6-4; Brody O’Brien (D) def. Jim Ostler 6-4, 6-4; Chase Thomas (F) won 7-5,2-6, 6-0.

DOUBLES: Jaxson Keith/Luke Phillips (D) def. Riley Grasham/Luke Hodge 6-3, 6-1; Garrett Thomas/Jared Pike (D) def. Elijah West/Carter Wilson 6-2, 6-0.

Clinton Prairie Gets First Volleyball Victory

Clinton Prairie rallied for a 3-2 victory over North Montgomery Thursday night in Jefferson. Prairie, now 1-1, dropped the opener 25-23, won the second game 25-12 before losing the third game 25-14. The Gophers then rallied to win the final two games by the scores of 25-11, 15-12.

Sydney Swan led Prairie with seven kills and 10 dogs, both team highs. Claire Ecenbarger had six kills, Jaylynn Gleb and Kylie Maish each added five kills, Hannah Wilson was tops in assists with 20 and added eight assists. Gleb led in aces with four and added eight digs, Maish had nine kills and a team-high three blocks, Keyra Fisher had seven digs and Victoria Florence added six digs.

The junior varsity also evened its record at 1-1 with a 25-17, 25-18 win over North Montgomery. Grace Good led in kills with four; Kaylie Wall led in assists with 14, Maya Rominger had a team-high four aces, while Julia Stillwell and Caydence Rios each had a team-high four digs.

Rossville Volleyball Falls to Carroll

Rossville fell to 0-3 on the year Thursday night with a 25-12, 25-22, 25-18 loss to Carroll at Flora. Next up for the Hornets is the Flashes Invite at Franklin Central on Saturday. They will open with Franklin Central at 9 a.m.
