Holcomb to Lead Trade Mission to Canada

Inside INdiana Business is reporting Governor Eric Holcomb will next week embark on his fourth international trade mission. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says the governor will use the three-day trip to Canada to “build relationships with one of Indiana’s largest economic partners.”

Holcomb will be joined by First Lady Janet Holcomb, Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger, Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson and Ports of Indiana Chief Executive Officer Rich Cooper. The delegation will meet with federal and provincial officials, business executives and industry leaders in Ontario and Québec.

“As we work to take Indiana’s business climate to the next level, we are targeting strategic national and international markets that will be essential partners in developing new innovations and creating jobs for Hoosiers,” Holcomb said in a news release. “Canada is not only our closest neighbor, but one of our strongest allies in foreign direct investment and trade. I look forward to building Indiana’s relationships in Canada and to pursuing economic opportunities that will help shape the future of our state.”

More than 70 Canadian businesses have a presence in Indiana and employ more than 15,600 Hoosier workers. The IEDC says the delegation will work to strengthen existing economic ties and market the state to potential investors.

Last year, Holcomb made similar trade missions to EuropeJapan and India. The IEDC says the Canada trip will be funded by private donations to the Indiana Economic Development Foundation.
