The Honorable Kathy Rae Smith, 66, of Frankfort, passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 at Witham Hospital in Lebanon. She was born January 7, 1952 in Goshen to Charles Dean and Lucille (Rapp) Smith. She was a graduate of Goshen High School, admitted to Ball State University in 1974 and got her law degree from Indiana University School of Law in 1980. She graduated from Indiana Judicial Graduate College in 1989. She had worked in the Attorney General’s office, practiced law in Frankfort with Mike Douglas, and served as Judge in Clinton County Superior Court for 26 years, and then Senior Judge for 9 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she served on the Parish Council and the Alter & Rosary Society. Among her many activities she participated in over the years, she enjoyed Zonta, Clinton County Foundation for Youth, and serving on the Camp Cullom Board. Boys & Girls Club Board, YMCA board, Open Door Clinic Board, Student Business Connection Tutor. Kathy enjoyed writing children’s books, spending time in her back yard with friends and family, and was an avid IU fan.
Kathy is survived by her sister, Dianne (Wayne) Fincher, of Frankfort; nephew, Damian (Claudia Garcia) Fincher of Lafayette; nieces, Carrie Lynn (Evan) Duvale of Murray, KY and; and favorite great nephew Demytrius.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held from 3-7pm, Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort with Rosary beginning at 3pm. Funeral mass will be at 10am, Thursday, December 13 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Father Chris Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at Milford Cemetery in Milford, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Cullom and the Clinton County Humane Society.
