The Frankfort Community Public Library invites you to attend their Hoosier Storytellers program scheduled for Saturday, July 29 at 2 p.m. in the Skanta Theatre. As part of celebrating Frankfort’s Hot Dog Hall of Fame 2023 Induction, we are excited to bring you a panel consisting of a few honored guests to be interviewed by FCPL’s Mike Clossin.
We will be joined by Hot Dog Hall of Fame Board President, Don Rusk. Don will discuss how the community can nominate deserving members of the Hot Dog family. Kevin Schindler, a historian from Lowell Observatory, will speak on behalf of posthumous honorees and Astronomers, Vesto Melvin (V.M.) Slipher and Earl Carl (E.C.) Slipher. Honoree Nicole Rudolph will be in attendance to discuss her career in the fashion industry and content creation.
V.M. Slipher (Alumni, Class of 1897) was Director of Lowell Observatory in Arizona from 1926 until 1952. By measuring red shift of distant stars, V.M. discovered stars moving away from Earth which eventually led to Georges Lemaitre’s theory that has become known as “The Big Bang Theory.”
E.C. Slipher (Alumni, Class of 1902), while working as an Astronomer at Lowell Observatory, became one of the first to standardize photographic plates for photometric measures, a procedure which is now universally used. He published two books, The Photographic Story of Mars (1962) and A Photographic Study of the Brighter Planets (1964).
Our third special guest and recent honoree, is Nicole Rudolph. Nicole (Alumni, Class of 2003) was the Artistic Director for American Duchess Shoes and worked at Colonial Williamsburg. She is now a full-time fashion history content creator on YouTube where she brings her expertise in shoemaking, sewing, and tailoring to an international audience.
The Hoosier Storytellers Program is an ongoing series, where our host, Michael Clossin, interviews guests of local interest and they discuss their unique experiences and journeys. The presentations usually last an hour, with audience questions to follow. Registration is not required. This program is free and open to the public and we are excited to see you in the theatre on July 29!
