Thanks to Richard Greeno and the Nevada State Museum, Richard ‘s tuxedo will be on display for the next two years in the Elizabeth O’Rear Skanta Theatre. The tuxedo coat was made by Greeno’s beloved wife, Nancy, and Richard wore the tux while performing in Las Vegas. The last big illusion show that Richard performed was at the Frankfort Library in the Skanta Theatre. Richard also used to lead a kids magic club in the basement of the Carnegie Library years ago.
Richard Greeno is of the era when people were born at home in Frankfort, Indiana. His parents that lived through the Great Depression. His family was of simple means, but they always had food and clean clothes. Richard’s father loved to read, so they became regulars at the Frankfort Community Public Library, visiting two or three times a week. Reading became young Richard’s doorway into the wonderful world of magic. Greeno’s first encounter with magic was when he was about nine. A magician came to Kyger Elementary School. It was not until he got out of the US Air Force that he started getting intrigued with magic. As years went by, he formed his own show and his stage name was “Ricardo.” The name didn’t last long, and Richard dropped it when a famous magician asked him why he didn’t bill himself under his own name. For the last forty-five years, he has performed magic as H. Richard Greeno and his Wonderful World of Magic. Magic has been a wonderful adventure for him and his wife. It has opened many doors for his family, and he has met many people, some famous and some infamous. One of these opportunities was to study the History of Las Vegas and the mob while collecting artifacts of the casinos of Las Vegas, which became one of the largest collections of its kind. The Greeno family donated their collection to the Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas in 2015. Magic and history are not the only things in his life. He owned Richard’s Furniture Store for 46 years and raised a family of one daughter and four sons.
