A longstanding Howard County farm was recently presented a Hoosier Homestead award for operating for 100 years, according to State Rep. Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo).
Located in Russiaville, the Salmons Farm has been in operation since 1918 and received a Hoosier Homestead Centennial Award.
“The impact of our agricultural community stretches far beyond local communities as they can significantly contribute to our state’s food supply and economy with the grit and persistence it takes to run these operations,” VanNatter said. “Congratulations to this Russiaville family for their remarkable achievement. I hope they continue to pass down this tradition to future generations.”
The Burnette family was among 51 farms recognized at the Indiana State Museum for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.
The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more. Families can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial awards.
Each year, two awards ceremonies are held in the spring and summer commemorating the achievements of farm families across the state. For more information on the Hoosier Homestead Award Program, visitin.gov/isda/2337.htm.
