The Indiana Department of Transportation is preparing to reconstruct and widen I-65 from north of State Road 32 to north of State Road 47 in Boone County. The project will add one lane in each direction and includes the removal of the I-65 and Lafayette Avenue exit ramp near Lebanon.
Beginning on or around March 15, crews will begin Phase 1 of work, which is expected to last into mid-July, weather dependent. Impacts to traffic include:
E&B Paving LLC was selected in October 2020 to complete the work with a bid of $83,733,000. Construction is expected to begin in March and continue until late 2021, weather dependent. About the Indiana Hands-Free Law In 2019, Indiana Criminal Justice Institute reported that distracted driving from mobile devices was a factor in at least 1,263 crashes and three fatal crashes. To make Hoosier roads safer, Governor Eric J. Holcomb signed the Indiana Hands-Free law to reduce distracted driving across the state. Beginning July 1, 2020, drivers are prohibited from holding a mobile device, except in emergencies, while their vehicles are moving.
