IDEM Extends Air Quality Action Days For Regions Including Delphi, Frankfort & Lebanon Through Friday

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management announced its forecast of an Air Quality Action Day for Thursday, June 20 on Tuesday in regions including Delphi, Frankfort and Lebanon, and a recent announcement dictated that the forecast will extend into Friday, June 21.

The department released its forecast that five Indiana regions will experience an Air Quality Action Day on Thursday, June 20 and Friday, June 21 as ozone levels are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range in areas that include Delphi, Frankfort and Lebanon.

Impacted Regions:

  • Central/East Central Indiana: Bloomington, Brookville, Columbus, Frankfort, Indianapolis, Greensburg, Kokomo, Lebanon, Martinsville, Muncie, Richmond and all other cities within the area.
  • Northwest Indiana: Crown Point, Gary, Hammond, Kentland, LaPorte, Michigan City, Portage, Rensselaer, Valparaiso and all other cities within the area.
  • Southeast Indiana: Brownstown, Corydon, Jeffersonville, Madison, New Albany, Salem, Versailles and all other cities within the area.
  • Southwest Indiana: Bedford, Bloomfield, Evansville, Huntingburg, Mount Vernon, Paoli, Princeton, Rockport, Tell City, Vincennes and all other cities within the area.
  • Western/West Central Indiana: Crawfordsville, Covington, Delphi, Fowler, Greencastle, Lafayette, Newport, Monticello, Spencer, Sullivan, Terre Haute and all other cities within the area.

The department released that continuing high temperatures are expected to reach the lower range of 90-degrees and may be paired with modest humidity that could lead to ozone levels that reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups designation for the regions. The department has forecasted the Ari Quality Action Day to indicate a higher level of ground-level ozone and fine particulate matter, and other factors may also impact overall air quality during the timeframe.

The Air Quality Action Days are in effect from midnight on the specified date for 24 hours. Some municipalities hold an additional open burning restriction on Air Quality Actions Days.
