Riley Goodnight made his first career start a memorable one as he scored 22 points to lead Frankfort to a 50-48 victory over Greencastle in the opening round of the Class 3A sectional Tuesday night in Greencastle.
The victory moved the Hot Dogs, 7-16, into Friday night’s first semifinal at 6 p.m. against North Montgomery, 12-10. Frankfort lost at North Montgomery 70-59 on Feb. 14.
The Hot Dogs shot the ball poorly in the opening period and trailed 17-4 after the first quarter. However, the Dogs limited Greencastle to just six points in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 23-15 at halftime.
Frankfort still trailed 35-29 heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring the Tiger Cubs 21-13 over the final eight minutes for the win.
Trey Frazier also reached double figures with FHS with 12 points. Coach Nate VanDuyne lauded Landen Mejia and Arod Valdes Sandoval for bringing great energy and ball movement to give the team a much needed lift
