Indiana DNR Awards $238,000 In Grants Across The State For The Planting Of Trees

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry awarded $238,000 in grants to 10 communities and organizations in an effort to support tree planting and maintenance, education, tree inventory and management projects across the state, including the Indianapolis and West Lafayette area.

The projects were selected by the department Community and Urban Forestry program with funds being awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, Urban and Community Forestry program.

Award Recipients:

  • City of West Lafayette – $24,557
  • City of Plainfield – $25,000
  • Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation – $25,000
  • Indiana University Indianapolis – $13,800
  • TREES Inc. – $25,000
  • Town of Nashville – $20,000
  • Indiana Arborist Association – $14,650

The department also awarded a Natural Disaster Recovery grant to the Blooming and Southeast campuses of Indiana University for $20,000, which is intended to enact the plating of trees after a tornado or other severe weather event.

The City of New Albany also received a $50,000 State Urban Forest Resilience grant from the department to treat ash trees for emerald ash borer and to plant trees in locations where borers killed the ash trees.
