Indianapolis Man Dies in Grant County Crash

At approximately 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Troopers from the Indiana State Police were working a crash that involved a semi on I-69 NB near the 259 mile marker. Jefferson Township Fire Department had arrived on scene to assist with the crash and was parked in front of the state police vehicle. Both vehicles were parked off of the travel portion of the roadway, partially in the median and partially on the left hand shoulder with emergency lights activated.

As troopers were still investigating the semi crash, a 2003 Honda Element SUV driven by Charles Finney, 43, of Indianapolis, was traveling northbound approaching the 259 mile marker. Finney lost control of his vehicle and traveled into the parked fire truck. The Honda Element impacted the rear side of the fire truck with its passenger’s side causing extensive damage to both vehicles.

Finney was removed from his vehicle by members of the Indiana State Police and the Jefferson Township Fire Department. He was then transported to Marion General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. This accident is still under investigation by the Indiana State Police. The use of alcohol or drugs are not suspected in this accident.
