INDOT to Close State Road 39 Bridge for 30 Days

Clinton County Highway Superintendent Kevin Myers told the Clinton County Commissioners Monday that the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plans to close the bridge on State Road 39 between Frankfort and Rossville for approximately 30 days. This is the same bridge that has been reduced to one lane of traffic for at least the last six months.

Myers said the closure was to happen on the first of March. However, that date has come and gone. So, it is assumed the bridge will be closed in the immediate future. Myers added the detour will be State Road 38 to 400 West to 300 North.

In another road matter, after checking with Myers, the Commissioners agreed to vacate a one-mile stretch of gravel road on County Road 1500 North between 1000 East and 1100 East.

In other news, issues with the Clinton County Landfill have resurfaced with trash all over the place and concerns about mud and dirt coming from the access road from the landfill going out on State Road 39.

Commissioner Steve Woods said the deal between the county and the landfill is a partnership and that he will be working with the landfill on getting these issues addressed and taken care of.

Woods also said a reason for some of the trash is that a tarp is not covering the trash at all times.

The PEPP Committee of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce made a presentation to the Commissioners regarding SHARP (Senior Homeowner Assistance for Repairs Program) about the possibility of implementing the program in the county as has been done in the city of Frankfort. Woods said there will be a meeting on this matter later this week and added they hope to up and going with the program in April.
