Inmate Back in Custody After Escape Attempt

CARI WELLS

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a Special Deputy and a Corrections Officer were escorting two female inmates back to the Clinton County Jail from the Clinton County Courthouse. As the Officers escorted the two females to the Courthouse elevator, inmate Cari Wells attempted to flee from the officers and started down a stairway.

Our Special Deputy gave pursuit as the Corrections Officer remained with the other inmate. Cari Wells was apprehended after a brief struggle and placed back into custody. Both inmates were returned to the Clinton County Jail without further incident.

A report will be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Sheriff Rich Kelly commends the quick action of our employees and ensures there was no risk to public safety during this incident:

“This is what we train for! I am proud of the quick response from our officers to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Well done!” said Kelly.
