On Friday, August 15, 2025, at approximately 10:25 a.m., the Boone County Communications Center
received a report of a serious motor vehicle accident in the 8500 block of North State Road 39. Deputies
from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, along with other emergency personnel, responded to the scene.
The crash involved three vehicles: a 2012 tan GMC Terrain, a concrete truck, and a 2021 RAM passenger
van.
The driver of the GMC Terrain, Jose Chavez, 64, of Frankfort, IN, and the front passenger, Norma Perez,
59, of Frankfort, IN, were pronounced deceased at the scene. A rear passenger in the Terrain, Yaraliz
Mercado, 25, of Frankfort, IN, and the driver of the RAM passenger van, Brice Stingley, 62, of Frankfort,
IN, were transported to a local hospital with serious bodily injuries. The driver of the concrete truck,
Russel Hampton, 62, of Kempton, IN, was also transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The circumstances of the crash are under investigation. Due to the severity of the injuries and fatalities,
the Boone County Sheriff’s Office Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) was contacted and is assisting with
the investigation.
