Volleyball will take on a new stage this fall when Indiana University and Purdue University meet at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for the first time. The longtime rivals are scheduled to play on Thursday, October 16, in what will be the 45th edition of the Monon Spike Match.
The game will also mark a milestone as the first volleyball match to be played inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse, best known as the home of the Indiana Pacers and the Indiana Fever.
The annual Monon Spike series has been a tradition since 1981, highlighting the in-state rivalry between IU and Purdue on the volleyball court. Purdue currently leads the series, but both programs have built strong followings in recent years, making the matchup one of the most anticipated contests on the Big Ten schedule.
University officials and organizers say hosting the game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse is part of a broader effort to showcase high-level volleyball in Indiana, where the sport continues to grow in popularity at both the college and high school levels.
Tickets for the event are on sale now through Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
