IU Health Arnett Looks to Future, Remembers Their History

Ten years ago on October 16, 2008, Clarian Arnett Health now known as Indiana University Health Arnett opened the doors to a brand new hospital and became an integrated healthcare system. More than a hospital, integrated healthcare encompasses primary care providers, specialists, advance practice providers and team members all working together with one focus, our patients.

“The community has embraced everything we offer and our skilled, dedicated team members are committed to delivering on our mission of improving the health of our communities,” stated Daniel Neufelder, FACHE, president of the IU Health Arnett. “We are grateful for all who have entrusted us with their care during the past decade. We are humbled by the patient trust, physician and employee loyalty and community partnerships that have defined our first decade.”

In 1922, Dr. Arett Campbell Arnett and Dr. Franklin Smith-Crockett opened one of the country’s first multispecialty clinics, the Arnett-Crockett Clinic, with a mission to improve the health and quality of life in the communities it served. The Arnett-Crocket Clinic had four staff physicians, six employees and had 20,000 patient visits per year.

More than 96 years later IU Health Arnett is continuing Dr. Arnett’s mission, with more than 300 providers, over forty specialties and sub-specialties and a full-service acute care hospital. IU Health Arnett has grown to employ more than 3,000 and sees more than 450,000 patients in nearly 20 locations serving West Central Indiana.

“The evolution of this hospital – from the first shovel we put into the ground to where we are today – has been driven by the needs of our community,” added James Bien, MD, FAAP, interim chief medical officer. Bien joined Arnett Clinic in 1999 as a pediatrician. “We know a hospital inherently serves as part of the fabric of a community. We take that responsibility very seriously and are always looking to the future to anticipate where those needs will take us next.”

In honor of this milestone, many team member celebrations will occur at IU Health Arnett throughout the week, including an employee picnic. On Wednesday, Oct. 17, IU Health Arnett will host the Greater Lafayette Commerce Business After Hours from 5-7 p.m. in the garden level of the hospital located at 5165 McCarty Lane.
