The Ivy Tech Foundation says, for the ninth consecutive year, a national report shows it is number one among U.S. community colleges for fundraising. The school took in $16.4 million in 2017 according to the Voluntary Support For Education survey. Foundation President John Murphy says fundraising over the last five years doubled the total during the previous five-year period. In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, Murphy calls 2017 a “historic year.” He adds “we achieved our budget, we’ve exceeded our budget — as we have the last five years — so, we’re very, very proud of that and very proud of our donors, our board of directors and our employees for helping us with that.”
Ivy Tech has 19 campuses throughout the state and Murphy says one-third are typically in fundraising mode at any given time. The money raised from donors supports different needs in each community. “Some have capital needs, some have equipment needs, some have faculty needs, some have scholarship needs,” he told Reporter Mary-Rachel Redman, “so the dollars go to the best possible place that’s going to help a student graduate in two years.”
VSE says donations to the colleges surveyed increased by more than 6 percent last year, compared to the previous year and totaled a record $43.6 billion. The survey has been around for 60 years.
