The intersection of Jackson and Walnut in downtown Frankfort will not be open as planned this weekend.
Frankfort Street Superintendent Jason Forsythe announced Friday morning that the intersection will remain closed until at least the end of the day Monday because of contaminated soil that was found when construction crews were working in the west lane for the State Road 28 rehabilitation project.
Forsythe said IDEM has been notified and will inspect the soil to see what is it in, if anything. That soil is sitting in the west lane with plastic over the top of it.
Originally, construction crews had hoped to have the intersection open by the end of Friday.
