Janet Sue Metzger

Janet Sue Metzger, 78, of Rossville passed away on July 5, 2024, after a brief illness. She was born August 21, 1945, in Frankfort, Indiana, to Lloyd and Mary Metzger. They, along with her brothers, Richard and Joe, and beloved niece, Missi, all left this Earth before her.

Janet was a loving and supportive sister to Karen and sister-in-law to Jackie. She was a thoughtful and generous aunt to Missi, Mandi (Jeff) Pennington, and Ty (Sara); a great-aunt to Payne, Paige (Joe) Heeb, Edie, and Jack; and the superlatives continued as she became a great-great-aunt to Elias and Isaac.

Janet had a 37-year career with State Farm that took her from West Lafayette, Indiana, to Tulsa, Oklahoma, then finally to Alpharetta, Georgia. During that time, she loved traveling with Karen and their friends all over the United States and Caribbean, and especially Biloxi, Mississippi.

Even though she had an adventurous spirit, Rossville was always “home.” She and Karen moved back there in the early 2000s and resumed their emphatic support of the Rossville Hornets!

Janet invested in Rossville in various ways. She was a past board member of both the Rossville School Foundation and Milner Community Healthcare. She also donated time and resources that benefited many other members of the Rossville Community.

Janet enjoyed Indiana Basketball, a good laugh, good music, a cold beer, and a hot slot machine! She stayed connected to her Rossville Class of ’63, and our Gascho family. Janet was the go-to for family history, and never forgot a birthday or anniversary for any of her nephews or nieces. She cared for many dogs over the years and cherished the time she spent with her newest puppy, Gidget.

Janet left this world having touched many lives. She lived her own life, in an honest way, with no regrets. We love her. We will miss her, and we thank her for the wonderful example she set.

Private family services will be held at a later day.  Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Bodine Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.  Memorial contributions can be made to Rossville School Foundation, in lieu of flowers.  Messages of condolence may be left at www.dayandgenda.com or sent to PO Box 114, Rossville, IN 46065.
