Jay T. McKinney, 82, longtime Clinton County resident passed away December 13, 2025 at Copper Trace in Westfield, IN. He was born April 28, 1943 in Crawfordsville, IN to Harold V. & Vera (Beard) McKinney. He married LaRose “Rosie” Newell on July 6, 1969 in Michigantown Christian Church and she preceded him in death on November 25, 2016.
Jay was a 1961 graduate of Clinton Central High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 – 1968, stationed at Misawa Air Force Base in Japan. Jay worked for Delco/Delphi Electronics for 32 years, retiring in 2000. He then worked part time at Richey & Son. He was an active member of the Michigantown Christian Church, serving as deacon, elder and was past chairman of the board. Jay enjoyed woodworking projects, loved automobiles, dogs, but mostly his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Melissa (Ryan) Shuey of Kokomo, Jason McKinney of Fort Worth, TX, Lora (Kyle) Smith of Noblesville, sister, Carol (Bert) Weaver of Frankfort, 6 grandchildren, Hannah (JP) Perkins, Abigail (Wilman) Avila, Karson & Kellen Smith, Katelyn (Conner) Smith, Haley Shuey and 2 great grandchildren, Mateo Avila and Braylin Smith.
In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ned McKinney and grandson, Connor McKinney.
Visitation will be from 12 Noon-2 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2025 at the Michigantown Christian Church, 108 W. 2nd St., Michigantown, IN 46057. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. at the church. Karl Kercheval will officiate. Burial will follow in Whiteman Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Michigantown Christian Church or the Michigan Road Community Library.
