Jet’s Animal Services Trying to Get Cat Population Under Control

Jet’s Animal Services is a registered 501c3 organization that provides spay and neuter services for feral and community cats.

Last year was their first year in business and they received funds from the City of Frankfort to help them accomplish their goals. They were able to fix 235 cats which equates to saving over 88,000 from being born, from themselves and their offspring over the next five years. However, this year the city is not able to give them funds due to their budget constraints.

By being able to continue this program they not only prevent the spread of disease that can caused by inbreeding, but it also helps the citizens of the county from having their property destroyed by feral cat colonies that get out of control. The costs associated with a feral and community cat problem can become quite burdensome to community. The repair of damage to homeowners’ property, increased animal control and the housing of unwanted cats at the animal shelter can be expensive. Unaltered cats will continue to breed causing those costs to continually rise.

They also take in litters of kittens that are abandoned by their mothers. They make sure these kittens get all medical needs are met as well as them vaccines, fix them and adopt them out to forever homes.

Lastly, they have also helped out from time to time with injured cats that are considered stray cats the Humane Society would not help with; they have gotten them the medical care they needed and either returned them to their colonies, or if friendly, adopted them out to forever homes as well.

The overall cost of the program can vary, depending on how many cats they have the funds to fix. Last year, they spent over $15,000.
