Joanna Ruth Silver, 92, of Kokomo, passed away July 8, 2026 at Kokomo Healthcare Center. She was born on June 22, 1934 in Frankfort to Lawrence and Flossie (Huffer) Thompson. She married Raymond Silver on May 28, 1955 in Brownsburg and he preceded her in death on December 15, 2017.
Joanna was born and raised in Frankfort and lived most of her married life in Kokomo. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Indiana and earned her Bachelors degree from IUK in Kokomo and her Masters in education from IUPUI in Indianapolis. She was a teacher at Taylor Community Schools for 24 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of The ConneXion Church in Kokomo and part of the Joy Fellowship. Joanna enjoyed baking, making fudge, sewing, and making homemade laundry detergent for a domestic violence shelter.
Surviving are her son: James (Robin) Silver of Greentown, daughter-in-law: Janet Fraver of Fostoria, OH, four grandchildren: Michael (Sara) Silver, Daniel (Kristen) Silver, Katherine Joanna Grace Silver and Courtney (Ryan) Grezenko, along with 7 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son: Thomas Silver, brother: John Thompson, and a great-grandchild.
A Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Jefferson Cemetery, North County Rd. 450 West, Frankfort. Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S.
