John A. “Jack” McCormick, 91, of Frankfort, passed away on November 15, 2020 at Wesley Manor. He was born in East Chicago, Indiana, on March 19, 1929 to Dr. Marion Andrews “Zeke” and Mary Luella “Mary Jane” (Hogshire) McCormick. He married Waltraud “Wally” Paula Winter on March 6, 1954; she survives.
Jack graduated from Washington High School in East Chicago, Indiana in 1947. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Germany until 1953. In 1957 he graduated from Indiana University with a Master of Science degree in Paleontology. From 1958-1989 he worked as a paleontologist for Exxon Oil, living in South America from 1958-1976 and New Orleans, Louisiana from 1976-1989. He had most recently been living in Pensacola, Florida until moving to Frankfort in 2017. As a youth, Jack enjoyed the ocean and in his later years he enjoyed yard work and tinkering with cars.
In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his son, Sean McCormick; grandchildren, Megan McCormick Encalade and Chelsea Fales; great-grandchildren, Cambre, Kinsley, Thomas John “TJ”, and Bailey; sister, Jain Egelhaaf; and brother-in-law, James “Jim” Seatter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sally Seatter.
