John A. “Jack” Smith, 69, a life-long Frankfort resident passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 26, 2018. He was born March 10, 1949, in Frankfort, to Ralph R. and Helen B. (Black) Smith. On May 29, 1976, he married Marcia Wills; together they shared 42 years of marriage.
In 1967, Jack graduated from Clinton Prairie High School. He then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After over 35 years of service, Jack retired from Alco as an inspector. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW and avid NASCAR fan. Jack truly enjoyed being at home in his backyard cooking out.
Surviving Jack are his wife, Marcia; son, Josh (Carrie) Smith, of Frankfort; sisters, Sarah Smith (Lynn Sallee), of Frankfort, and Carol (Jay) Staehler, of New Castle; brothers, James “Randy” (Phyllis) Smith, of Minnesota, Joseph “Joe” (Penny) Smith, of Daleville, Ralph “Bill” (Gelia) Smith, of Frankfort, and Terrence “Terry” (Teresa) Smith, of Frankfort; and brother-in-law, Sam (Sandy) Wills, of Frankfort.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Andy.
A service will be held to celebrate Jack’s life at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018, at Green Lawn Cemetery Chapel of Peace with Pastor Paul Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jack’s name may be made to the Clinton County Humane Society.
