Center Township Trustee Kevin Evans said he couldn’t think of a better time or place to hand out the first ever Legacy of Service Award.

Evans presented Kaspar Broadcasting and WILO the first Legacy of Service Award to WILO Station Manager Russ Kaspar for the station’s commitment to the community related to giving back Wednesday at the 30th Annual Senior Fair at the Community Life Center.

“Vern Kaspar was instrumental in our community, being a contributor and building up individuals with financial stability,” said Evans. “Our township is liable for helping people who are needing assistance and needing care. With today being the 30th anniversary of the Senior Fair, which is a great event, it just seemed like a good opportunity to present that award.”

Evans called the award “their highest honor”. It is also given out just three times a year.

“Being that WILO has been in our community for 59 years, the great things they’ve done with Ivy Tech and Vern with the scholarships and things through the Community Foundation, it just made a lot of sense (to present the award today at the Senior Fair).” said Evans.

The award was presented near the end of lunch and the beginning of musical entertainment.
