Kenneth Wayne Miller

Kenneth Wayne Miller, 80, of Plainfield, formerly of Rossville, passed away Friday, January 31, 2025, at The Village of Avon from complications due to Alzheimer’s.  He was born October 30, 1944, in Hammond, Ind. to Michael and Bessie (Kacer) Miller. He married Janis Sue Toney on August 16, 1969, and she survives.

Ken was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, class of 1962.  He then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from Purdue University and later his master’s degree from Ball State University.  He was a high school government, economics, and history teacher from 1966 to 1972 at Rossville High School, where he also coached basketball and baseball.  Ken was later employed at Utility Supply Co. in Indianapolis for 28 years, retiring in 2000.  He was a member of Rossville Presbyterian Church, where he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served as an Elder and on other committees. He also led the junior high youth group for many years.  With other church members, he went on several mission trips to Moss Point, Mississippi, helping to rebuild homes after the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

He served two terms on the Rossville School Board and was a member of the Rossville Lions Club, Kiwanis, Rossville School Foundation, Rossville Area Transit Board, and Senior Golf League.  For many years he was an IHSAA high school basketball official and enjoyed umpiring baseball games.  He will be remembered by many as the Voice of the Rossville Hornets at the boys basketball games.  He enjoyed music, playing golf, cooking, fishing, traveling, and watching sports. He was a diehard Purdue Boilermakers, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Blackhawks fan.

Above all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Throughout the years, he could be found at their many games, concerts, and performances and was often heard sharing his pride in them with anyone who would listen.

Along with his wife of 55 years, Ken is survived by his daughters, Sheri (Jason) Acquisto of Fishers, Ind. and Susan (Brad) Bough of Terre Haute, Ind.; grandchildren, Miller and Maxine Bough and Anthony Acquisto.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rossville Presbyterian Church in Rossville, Ind.  Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Bodine Chapel in Rossville is assisting with the arrangements.  Memorial contributions in remembrance of Ken can be made to Rossville Presbyterian Church, 5434 W.
