Kirklin Announces Hydrant Flushing Schedule for May 5–6

The Town of Kirklin is notifying residents that hydrant flushing will take place throughout town on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 5 and 6, as part of routine water system maintenance.

Officials say hydrant flushing is a critical process that helps maintain the town’s water quality and infrastructure. By flushing the system, crews can remove sediment and mineral buildup from water lines, maintain proper water pressure, and ensure fire hydrants are functioning effectively in case of emergencies.

During the two-day process, residents may notice temporary changes in their water service. These can include fluctuations in water pressure or discoloration, such as rust or brown-colored water. If discoloration occurs, residents are advised to run cold water until it clears.

Town officials also recommend taking a few precautions during the flushing period. Residents may want to bypass water softeners or filtration systems to prevent sediment from entering the units. Additionally, checking water clarity before doing laundry—especially when washing white clothing—is encouraged.

If water discoloration persists after flushing in your area, residents should contact the town’s water superintendent at 765-209-2655 for assistance.
