Kirklin Plans To Install New Benches At Park Through Plastic Lid Collection Project; Lids Still Needed

The Town of Kirklin has announced that with the aid of the community through the collection of plastic lids and monetary donations, the community park will see new benches installed to spruce up the park and provide a leisure place to relax along the walking path.

The Town stated that with the addition of the walking path, it seeks to install benches along the way to better spruce up the park and allow for those utilizing the path to have a comfortable resting place on their journey.

The Town is still currently seeking plastic lid donations to continue purchasing more benches to install at the park. The donation receptacle is placed in the hallway at Town Hall, and those who cannot visit Town Hall may contact the Town or the Town Superintendent to set up a time to pick up the lids and caps. Town Hall may be reached at 765-279-8786. The Town Superintendent may be reached at 765-209-2655.

The Town released a statement regarding the project.

I have some “thank you’s” I’d like to say regarding the park bench project!

I want to first thank those who have donated the cost of a full bench at retail! When we order and receive the benches, the plaque with your chosen wording will be attached to it! I will be letting you know when we receive them. For anyone else who may be interested, the retail cost is $519.50 for a 6′ park bench. The town will pay for and attach a plaque that can say “Donated by” or “In Memory of” or even “In Honor of”. We will be putting in an order likely by the end of next week. There is about a 3 week lead time. As soon as we receive the first benches, I’ll be sure to post a picture of one here! They will be nice out at the park and being recycled plastic should last Kirklin many years.

Also! Thank you to ANYONE who has brought in their plastic caps and lids so far, or are collecting them for us. You guys are awesome! There’s a list I posted on the flyer of acceptable caps/lids and we have copies up here at town hall as well. KEEP ‘EM COMING! Every 200 we collect and sort allows us to purchase a 6’ bench at a reduced cost. This will allow our park budget, which isn’t big to start with, to stretch farther than it would otherwise. I know it sounds like a lot of caps, and it is, but will be worth all the time we are spending on it to help improve our little park. We have a few hundred pounds of them already donated to us by various sources that we are working on sorting.

Lastly, thank you to our town superintendent for being willing to help out every step of the way since I approached you with this project. You have already put in a lot of your personal time helping me and I surely appreciate it!

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to reach out at 765-279-8786 or by emailing twalker@kirklinindiana.org.

The Town announced that Janet Cline and the rest of the “Lids for Linda,” in honor of Linda Barnett, group from Michigantown were instrumental in the launch of the program as they donated their remaining caps and lids to Kirklin.
