Kokomo Man Arrested on Reckless Homicide Charge Following Fatal Shooting

On February 24, 2026, at approximately 7:04 p.m., officers of the Kokomo Police Department were dispatched to an apartment located at 419 W. Lincoln Road in reference to a shooting. The caller advised a female at that location suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Upon officers’ arrival, officers located 21-year-old Jessica M. Tomlinson on the floor of the residence with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. In addition, inside the residence was the victim’s husband, 21-year-old Cameron Tomlinson, and their 1-month-old infant. Officers also discovered the 1-month-infant sustained a gunshot wound to the hand resulting in significant trauma. Medics responded to the scene, and despite all life saving measures, Jessica succumbed to her injury. The infant was transported to Community Howard Regional Health Hospital before being transported to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment. The infant is currently in stable condition.

Responding officers were initially informed that Jessica was handling a firearm and accidentally shot herself. Officers discovered Tomlinson’s 1-month old infant was being held by Jessica when the shooting occurred and suffered what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the infant’s hand.

Kokomo Police Department investigators obtained and collected evidence from the scene. Multiple interviews were conducted with the victim’s husband, neighbors, and family. As a result of this investigation, Cameron Tomlinson was taken into custody and transported to the Howard County Criminal Justice Center on preliminary charges of Reckless Homicide (Level 5 Felony) as per I.C. 35-42-1-5 and Criminal Recklessness (Level 6 Felony) as per I.C. 35-42-2-2.
