The Howard County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Kokomo man for dealing methamphetamine and dealing marijuana after he ran a red stoplight.
On Nov. 4, just before 8 p.m., a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office reportedly observed a vehicle that stopped at a green light at the intersection of Washinton Street and North Street in Kokomo. The deputy reported that once the light turned red, the vehicle began to enter the intersection and continued to drive at approximately 5 miles-per-hour before the deputy conducted a traffic stop. The driver was later identified as Charles Stallworth, 38, of Kokomo.
According to authorities, Stallworth exited the vehicle once the vehicles stopped and began speaking with the deputy near the driver’s side door. According to the deputy, Stallworth spoke with “heavily slurred” speech, experienced unsteady balance and displayed lethargic and “confusing” responses. Stallworth submitted to a portable breath test, which showed a 0% breath alcohol content, authorities report. The deputy stated that the conversation with Stallworth continued before the deputy began to smell the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The deputy reportedly conducted a search due to the smell.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the search yielded approximately 67.5 grams of methamphetamine in tablet form, approximately 238.5 grams of marijuana, $800 cash and multiple cell phones. Stallworth was placed into custody and transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked at the Howard County Jail, authorities say. The deputy reported that Stallworth remains at the jail without bond and charges of dealing methamphetamine, Level 2 Felony, Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony, dealing marijuana, Level 6 Felony, possession of marijuana / prior, Class A Misdemeanor, and driving while suspended / prior, Class A Misdemeanor.
