At approximately 1:20 a.m. on Monday, the Howard County Sheriff Department responded to a one vehicle crash on County Road 500 South near County Road 580 West Howard County.
Preliminary investigation shows that that a Black 2001 Ford Taurus, driven by 41-year-old Derrick J. Burnett of Kokomo, was traveling East on Howard County’s 500 South approaching Howard County’s 580 West at an unknown rate of speed. The vehicle left the roadway on the south side striking a tree and ejecting the driver from the vehicle. The vehicle’s final resting place was in the yard of a residence at 11839 West 700 North, Russiaville (Tipton County).
Burnett was pronounced dead at the scene by Tipton County Coroner Bob Nichols.
Assisting at the scene were the Russiaville Fire Department, Community Howard Regional Hospital Ambulance, Howard County Emergency Management, and the Tipton County Coroner’s Office.
