Kokomo Man Killed After Breaking Into Home

A Kokomo man was killed after entering a residence without permission around 9 p.m. on Sunday and beginning a physical altercation, police say.

On Oct. 15 just before 9 p.m., the Kokomo Police Department received a report from a homeowner at 618 E. Jackston St. in Kokomo that an unknown male entered his home while the homeowner was asleep, leading to an altercation and between the two men according to officers. The homeowner informed the dispatcher that he shot the intruder, later identified as Scott Eliott Jones, 51, of Kokomo, during the altercation, officers report.

Officers responded to the scene and located Jones near the front door of the home with a gunshot wound, and officers rendered medical aid to Jones until emergency services arrived on the scene according to officers.

According to the report, the homeowner stated that he was asleep in his residence when he was awakened by Jones, who was in his living room. The homeowner reported that he attempted to remove Jones from his home when Jones physically attacked the homeowner, which led the homeowner to shoot Jones to end the physical altercation, police said.

Kokomo Police reported that Jones died of his injuries, and the homeowner was treated for minor abrasions and bruising sustained from the physical altercation.

An autopsy is being scheduled with the Howard County Coroner’s Office, and the case will be forwarded to the Howard County Prosecutor’s Office for a review of the investigation once the investigation is completed.
