The Howard County Prosecutor’s Office announced today that 30-year-old
Joseph Smith was sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to 4 counts of arson
yesterday.
These charges stem from a series of arson fires that occurred in August of 2024 all within an
hour and approximately a mile apart. In the fires, 4 vehicles, 2 homes, and a garage were
damaged. No injuries were reported.
The Howard County Prosecutor’s Office emphasized that the filing of the Informations are
merely allegations, and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven
guilty in court.
