The Kokomo Police Department is scheduled to have an on-site assessment in conjunction with our efforts to achieve re-accreditation status. The purpose of the assessment is to verify that the Kokomo Police Department continues to meet the professional standards outlined by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). The accreditation program requires law enforcement agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: Policy and Procedure, Administration, Operations Services and Support Services.
As part of the on-site assessment, all employees of the Kokomo Police Department, as well as any member of our community, are invited to attend and offer comments at a public information session that will be held on December 11, at 4:30 p.m., Council Chambers, at City Hall, 100 S. Union Street.
Kokomo Police Department employees and the public are also invited to offer any comments by phone by calling 765-456-2996 on Tuesday, December 11, between the hours of 1 and 3 p.m. All calls will be taken by a member of the CALEA assessment team. Phone comments, as well as personal appearance at the public information session, are limited to ten (10) minutes and must address issues associated with the ability of the Kokomo Police Department to comply with CALEA standards. The standards may be viewed at the Kokomo Police Department by contacting Captain Christopher Smith, 456-7250.
Anyone wishing to do so may submit their comments, in writing, regarding the Kokomo Police Department’s ability to comply with the Fifth Edition Standards, set forth by CALEA. Written comments should be mailed to The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia 20155, Telephone (703) 352-4225; Fax (703) 890-3126.
