Lady Tigers See Two Athletes Move On To Regional With One Record-Breaking Finish In Sectional

The Lebanon Lady Tigers track and field team was held to only 9 points during the Southern Sectional on Tuesday night, placing ninth overall in the meet with one Lady Tiger breaking her record she set earlier this season.

Penny Lamerson

The Lady Tigers were held to only 9 points during the meet as they secured ninth-place, following Hamilton Southeastern with 129.5 points, Carmel with 114 points, Noblesville with 107 points, Fishers with 102 points, Westfield with 82.5 points, Hamilton Heights with 40 points, Guerin Catholic with 22 points and Western Boone with 13 points. The Tigers scored higher than University with 4 points and Sheridan with 1 point.

The Lebanon Athletic Department released a breakdown for how athletes are chosen to advance from Sectionals to Regionals:

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place sectional winners in all individual events and relays automatically advance plus any individual or relay team meeting the 3 Participant Standard in the sectional finals of their event.

If the top 3 finishers plus 3 Participant Standard advancers in an event totals 16, the next best performances from the corresponding sectionals shall be added to bring the total number of entrants to 16 in each event.

While the Lady Tigers were held to only 9 points throughout the meet, the team saw a momentous occasion as Penny Lamerson shattered her previous school record of 5:14 with a time-stopping finish of 5:09.95 in the 1,600-meter run where she placed fifth. Lamerson will receive a call back to advance to the Lafayette Jeff Regional alongside Jocelyn Butler who placed seventh in the pole vault and is expected to receive a call back to the Regional.

The Lady Tigers who also scored for the team during the Sectional include:

  • 4×100 Relay – Leila Richards, Soteria Udu, Claire Boling, Ciarra Hiatt (8th)
  • 4×400 Relay – Sophie Kyker, Nadia Jones, Penny Lamerson, Claire Boling (8th)
  • 4×800 Relay – Sophie Kyker, Harper Adams, Sarah Keith, Nadia Jones (8th)
