Lafayette Man Arrested In Child Exploitation Investigation

The Lafayette Police Department, in coordination with the Indianapolis metropolitan Police Department, the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, arrested a Lafayette man on multiple charges related to child exploitation in March.

On March 24, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reportedly alerted law enforcement to a CyberTip regarding the possession and attempted upload of child sexual abuse material, which was investigated by the partners. The investigation led officers to allegedly identify the suspect as Cornelio Caal-Tiul, 25, of Lafayette.

On march 26, officers reportedly conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle departing from the residence and confirmed the driver’s identity as Caal-Tiul. Investigators reportedly executed a search warrant at the residence, which resulted in the recovery of additional evidence.

Following an interview with detectives from the Special Victims Unit, Caal-Tiul was taken into custody and transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail where he is currently being held on charges of Child Exploitation, Child Molestation and Possession of Child Pornography.

The case remains under investigation, and anyone with additional information has been encouraged to contact the Lafayette Police Department at 765-807-1200.

All people are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
